Travel and accommodation

Hotels:

Lille has a wide range of hotels but only a limited number of rooms, we therefore advise you to book your accommodation as early as possible. Below is a list of suggested recommendations for hotels which are close to the city centre and which allow for convenient and easy access to the university. You may also consider alternative options for accommodation, such as AirBnB (see further down for recommended parts of town to stay in).

To stay in the historic part of Lille, you can find a number of moderately priced hotels on the tourist office website (check the “map view”): https://en.lilletourism.com

Situated right behind the city’s main square. This hotel is an all-time favorite among the Lille teaching staff. It offers single bedrooms from 90€ per night (breakfast not included).

5 Parvis Saint Maurice - 59000 Lille

Close to the city centre and the train stations.

It is also situated between the two main railway stations.

271 Avenue Willy Brandt, Euralille - 59777 Lille

tel. 00 33 (0)3 28 04 75 51

It offers furnished studio apartments (from 70€ per night) and one-bedroom apartments (from 92€ per night) (breakfast not included).

You could look downtown (Lille Centre or Rihour). It's close to the train and subway stations and roughly 10-15mn from campus if you take the subway. There are cafés, restaurants, and shops in the area and the Palais des Beaux Arts is just two subway stops away. Besides, the centre-ville is also really nice-looking and quaint with its flemish architecture.

From Wazemmes subway station up to the Citadelle park over to all of Vieux Lille and back down as far as the Parc Joseph Lebas is a large area inside of which you will always be close to subway stations and within 6 to 8 subway stops to the campus.

If you are in Vieux Lille, there are no immediate subway stations there, but it’s extremely beautiful and it is a 10-12 minute walk to the Lille Flanders station.

If you would like to be a bit closer to campus, you can look anywhere close to these subway stops: Fives, Marbrerie, Mairie d'Hellemmes, Square Flandres.

We would not go east of the Lille Europe or Lille Flanders stations. We would also advise against looking for accommodation in the Lille-Sud area.

Travel:

How to get to Lille:

By train

There are two main line railway stations in Lille. Lille Flandres is where the local trains and the TGVs from Paris arrive. Just about everything else (including other TGVs and the Eurostars from Brussels and London) arrive at Lille Europe. Both stations are just 400 hundred metres apart, located either side of the EuraLille shopping mall.

You can get to Lille in about :

By Plane

Lesquin Airport is close to Lille (the low cost airline Ryanair connects it to major cities in Europe) but the easiest way to get to Lille from Britain or from across the Atlantic is to land at Roissy Airport (north of Paris) and take the direct train from Roissy to Lille (60 minutes).

By Bus

OUIBUS, the French bus-branch of SNCF, Eurolines, and Flixbus run coach services between Paris, Brussels, London, Amsterdam, Bruges, and more. The bus stop station is located at Gare de Lille Europe.

The tickets of all those companies can be purchased on Sobus.

By metro

Lille has two metro lines that connect the centre of the city with several suburbs, and two tram lines from Gare de Lille Flandres to Roubaix and Tourcoing, two other major cities in the Hautes de France region.

There are also bus lines that service all parts of the city.

Single tickets are €1.60 + a €0.20 charge for the rechargeable ticket. 24 hour day passes are available for €4.80 - other ticket types are available for longer stays. Machines accept cash and cards. The tickets cover the Transpole metro, buses and trams to any destination - longer distance intercity trains (to Roubaix for example) require separate tickets.

How to get to the University of Lille (Pont-de-Bois Campus):

The University is only five stations away from Lille Flandres railway station.

From Lille Flandres, take the "4 Cantons" train (line 1) and get off at "Pont de Bois".

If you arrive at the Lille Europe railway station, you have to change at Lille Flandres. Take the "Saint Philibert" train (line 2) and change at Lille Flandres. From Lille Flandres take the "4 Cantons" train (line 1) and get off at "Pont de Bois".
